Eating “natural whole foods” without going crazy!
What is considered “Natural or Whole”
You may be wondering to yourself well what’s the definition of whole foods or clean eating… and how am I supposed to eat that way without going crazy?!
Let’s first start out with what is actually considered a whole food…
A whole food is a food that is in it’s natural form, un-altered, un-modified, un-processed and meant to eat the way it is.
So for example: Fruits, Vegetables, Whole Grains, Beans, Legumes, raw Nuts and seeds… those are all natural whole foods!
They are in their true form and have not been changed 😉
Now you’re probably thinking how am I supposed to make a meal out of those things? Here is your answer: You get creative BUT you keep it SIMPLE! Too much thought about what to do or trying to make something that has 20 ingredients in it is bound to stress you out!
Pick things you like and make something out of it, get in the kitchen start experimenting!
For me it works best NOT to follow a recipe (but everyone is different, you might work better with a recipe) but for me I just like to stock up on healthy whole foods and get in the kitchen and decide what sounds good!
I generally have fruits in the morning (including fruit smoothies! Fruits usually frozen, mixed with coconut water and ice blended) , vegetables in the afternoon (I’ll literally chop tomato and onion and avocado and eat that YUM!) Usually I have my Shakeology in the afternoon, and dinner is usually a whole grain rice, (or pasta even though that IS processed but I make sure it’s whole grain GF) and I will have sautéed vegetables along side that! I DO NOT use soy sauce or teriyaki sauce on my rice though, I use LEMON juice! It’s very different and if you don’t like lemon than it’s probably not for you but I LOVE it!
other snacks include raw nuts mixed with dried fruit and dark chocolate! (dried fruit and dark chocolate is NOT considered a whole food it is altered and not in it’s natural form BUT it is healthier than a candy bar!)
I keep things SIMPLE, mostly whole foods. I do eat a little bit of processed foods but they are still natural just not “whole” (dried fruit and dark chocolate) … am I perfect ABSOLUTELY NOT! do I eat this way 100% NO but do I try to as much as possible YES I would say at least 85% of the time this is how I eat 😉 because I believe in treating your body with love and respect and not taking advantage of it! It works hard for you every day so it deserves to be nourished and taken good care of!
when you are coming from eating a Standard American Diet (fast food, junk food, processed food) you need to remember to keep things simple otherwise it will be very stressful and difficult to stay committed to eating clean!
Also keep in mind some whole foods are actually healthier for you when they are cooked and some lose their nutrition when cooked.
Some health conditions actually digest cooked vegetable’s easier than raw vegetables!
So bottom line is to KEEP IT SIMPLE and not over analyze things until you are comfortable eating healthy and it doesn’t stress you out any more… THEN learn one things at a time and incorporate it !
